Dear Parents/Guardians,

♦ On behalf of the Board of Management I happy to inform you that the school has been granted an extra support teacher.  This will bring the total teaching staff to 12 from the start of the new school year.

Unfortunately, Mr. Carroll will not be with us next year.  We wish him every success in the future and thank him for the wonderful contribution he has made to Scoil Mhuire Lourdes.

♦ Bookbills:  Bookbills will be given out early next week.  If you wish to order your books through the school, you must pay before the holidays.  Otherwise you will have to purchase books yourself during the holidays.  The difference between availing of the school rental scheme and buying the books yourself can be great especially in the older classes.

Please note: All pupils must pay the school section of the bill, even if buying the books themselves.

♦ School reports will also be given out next week.  Please take time to read the report and take note of recommendations/comments by the teacher.  Your daughter’s teacher has worked with your child for the past year and has put a lot of time/effort into each report.

♦ Active School Week

Next week is our Active Schools week and we will be getting moving – tennis, games from the past, outdoor trails and orienteering, cycle training, walk-a-mile, skipathon and Summer Olympics!

We will be raising our Active Flag in recognition of achieving Active School Status.

The girls can wear their school P.E. gear or plain navy shorts all week and they will be getting ‘P.E. homework’.  We hope this will help encourage them to value and enjoy exercise and keep active for life.

♦ This is one of my last newsletters to you as I have decided to retire. I came to Scoil Mhuire Lourdes in 1977 as a class teacher.  I was very fortunate to have worked with three former Principals – Sr. Philomena, Sr. Betty and

Sr. Francesca.  I was then appointed Principal of the school in 2002.  During my time as Principal I was ably assisted by a dedicated Deputy Principal – Frances Cullen initially (now retired) and Mrs. Finnerty for the past year.  Great support was also given by post holders and Boards of Management.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all pupils and all parents/guardians for their co-operation over the past years.  Scoil Mhuire Lourdes is a very special place.  We have a very dedicated staff supported by co-operative, willing parents/guardians who encourage their children to be hardworking, helpful and respectful.  I am proud to be associated with such a wonderful place of learning and enthusiasm.  I wish my successor every success as he/she takes over at the end of August.  I know that you will support this person from the start to lead Scoil Mhuire Lourdes through the next years.
