Session 1: Creative Movement: Junior and Senior Infants @ 9.30-10.15am

Have you ever enjoyed ‘dancing around the sitting room’? If you have, then you know what a wonderful experience it is to move uninhibited to music! Ali and Marian will lead us through a rich collection of activities that will offer many possibilities for movement and responding. We will move to the beat, respond to rhythmic patterns, make shapes and poses, move with a friend and play with scarves, ribbons and more!

Session 2: Folk Dancing: 1st and 2nd @11.15-12.00pm

Folk dancing is one of the most effective means of developing children’s understanding of beat, meter, rhythm, phrase, melody, form and their ability to listen and respond. To dance with a partner or in a group in this way – there is huge power, joy and connection and you will find yourself wanting to do it again, and again, again! Ali and Marian will share with us a few of their favourite folk dances, so get your dancing shoes on and get ready!

Session 3: African Sing Circle: 3rd and 4th class @ 12.00-12.45pm

A “hands-on” interactive music session with Marian and Ali, where the whole family will discover the “rhythm within” – a fun-filled “in the moment” encounter with music through rhythm-based activities using your own hands, feet, body and instruments provided.

This is a school-based event that the whole family can enjoy where you “everyone” become the music-makers. Absolutely no previous musical expertise is needed to participate – the emphasis is fun and enjoyment!  So come and play alongside your child and experience the power of jammin’ as part of a family, rooted in community, self-expression, and play.

Session 4: Tadgh Griffin Musical Workshop: 5th and 6th @ 1.30-2.15pm

This is an interactive workshop with Tadhg Griffin, that the whole family can enjoy. You’ll learn the ins and outs of songwriting, performance and what it’s like to be a musician today.

In this workshop you’ll learn, how to write a song and what it takes to become a professional musician. We’ll talk about modern musicians and they’re different styles, and see what makes a catchy/ popular song. We might even end up writing our own song! So make sure you come along to this afternoon of singing and performance and if you have any songwriting or musical experience make sure you bring your instrument to!

SOOOOO……….

Parents bring your kids! Kids bring your parents, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends, the whole family, your relations, your neighbours! There’s something for everyone!

It is now located inside the school building and is ready for use in the event of an emergency. Thank you to the PA for giving us such a vital piece of equipment and also to the Tullow First Responders for training the staff here in Scoil Mhurie Lourdes.
