Parents Evening

Parent/Teacher meetings are taking  place at school this week. It  is an important time to meet with your child’s teacher(s) in a one to one setting. It lets your child know that you care about their progress and their schools and gives teachers & parents the opportunity to plan together so that we can do the best for each child.

Parents Evening by Allan Ahlberg

We’re waiting in the corridor,
My dad, my mum and me.
They’re sitting there and talking;
I’m nervous as can be.
I wonder what she’ll tell ’em.
I’ll say I’ve got a pain!
I wish I’d got my spellings right.
I wish I had a brain.

We’re waiting in the corridor,
My husband, son and me.
My son just stands there smiling;
I’m smiling, nervously
I wonder what she’ll tell us.
I hope it’s not all bad.
He’s such a good boy, really;
But dozy – like his dad.

We’re waiting in the corridor
My wife, my boy and me.
My wife’s as cool as cucumber;
I’m nervous as can be.
I hate these parents’ evenings.
I feel just like a kid again
Who’s gonna get the stick.

 I’m waiting in the classroom.
It’s nearly time to start.
I wish there was a way to stop
The pounding in my heart.
The parents in the corridor
Are chatting cheerfully;
And now I’ve got to face them;
And I’m nervous as can be.

The Celtic Tenors in Concert Friday October 5th 2018

Tullow’s Girls Primary School, Scoil Náisiúnta Muire Lourdes launches its 2018 gala concert with  The Celtic Tenors Friday October 5th 2018

The Parents Association of Tullow Girls Primary School, Scoil Náisiúnta Muire Lourdes, is proud to announce its upcoming gala concert which will see the school’s 4th, 5th and 6th class girls perform alongside the Celtic Tenors and very special guest soprano Regina Hanley.

The gala concert will take place on Friday 5th October, 2018, in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary Tullow. Pupils from Scoil Mhuire Lourdes, who currently participate in ‘Music Generation’, Ireland’s national music education programme, will have a unique opportunity to perform alongside some of the country’s most talented musicians.

The concert will feature a combination of classical and much loved popular Irish songs and promises a truly unforgettable event. Preparations are underway and Celtic tenor James Nelson and Regina Hanley have been visiting the school, to meet and rehearse with the girls.

The Celtic Tenors (James Nelson, Niall Morris and Mathew Gilsenan) are a charismatic, globe-trotting trio and are the most successful classical crossover act to emerge from Ireland. They have a polished international reputation and just over a million album sales under their belts.

Principal Frank Murphy of Scoil Náisiúnta Muire Lourdes said: “We are incredibly excited to launch this concert. It is an amazing experience of a lifetime for the pupils to perform with the Tenors and we know it’s going to be an amazing evening for all. Music teaches children so much including social and self-esteem skills. The event will not only be a great opportunity to witness a unique performance by the Celtic Tenors on home ground but to see them perform alongside our talented pupils too.”

Special guest Regina Hanley is a Tullow native and past pupil of Scoil Mhuire Lourdes. She is a founder member of a trio called The Celtic Divas and has worked as an opera singer with many of the main opera companies in the UK and Ireland, and her singing career has taken her to many countries in the world including, Portugal, Finland, Sweden,

Tickets are available online at www.celtic-tenors.com, the School Office, Tullow Parish Centre, or from any committee member at a cost of €20 (plus booking fee for online purchase). All funds raised will go towards the continued development of the music at the school.  For further information contact 0599151875 or parentsassociation@smltullow.ie
