“ACTIVE SCHOOLS” NEWS

Great News – Our school has been awarded an Active School Flag!  We are one of only 7 schools in Carlow to have achieved it.  The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.  The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.  Huge congratulations to the great work of our Active School Committee and to the whole school for their enthusiastic engagement with all aspects of the process.  The Accreditor Tommy Lannigan noted the great level of activity that we have included in our school especially considering the limited outdoor space and classroom size available.  He also noted how lucky our pupils are to have access to swimming lessons and gymnastic sessions.  We hope to continue with our ‘get active’ incentives and hope that it will continue to encourage everyone to stay active at school, at home and in the community

As part of our Active Schools programme we are introducing a Be Active After School Club for pupils from 3rd – 6th class.  It will be starting on Monday 14th November from 3-4p.m. in the school yard or hall (weather dependent).  John Kenny will be giving the sessions with another teacher from the school present.  There is a cost of €2 per session.  It is intended that all children who sign up for the lessons will strive to come every week – anyone who misses two sessions will lose their place.  The sessions will run from 14th November – 19th December.  Anyone who wishes to attend is asked to collect a form from Ms. O’Toole tomorrow.  There are 30 spaces available on a first come first served basis.
