The girls in 4th class have been taking part in a fully funded programme by VISUAL in Carlow called ‘The Bees Needz’ as part of the Towns and Villages Renewal Scheme 2018-19. The aim of the project is to use fun and creativity to encourage young people to get involved in making their area a more sustainable place to live, and to increase knowledge, understanding and skills that enable them to contribute to their local area.
Our school was one of ten schools selected to avail of this exciting programme. Creative and fun workshops were conducted by an Arts Facilitator and Bee Keeper. These workshops explored the needs of bees, biodiversity and the importance of protecting natural habitats within their own town or village. The girls worked with artist Mary Conroy to create a bee hotel or sanctuary (using recycled materials) within the vicinity of their school, town or village. This will be located on the school grounds for the whole school community to enjoy.
Check our the ‘SASSY BEE HOTEL’ which was opened for business on Friday, 17th May 2019 for the bees of Tullow and the surrounding areas!
The girls also attended a ‘Gathering Day’ in Carlow IT. More pics of them to follow…
